Barkan Classic Shiraz
This wine is based on Shiraz grapes harvested at Barkan's Tel-Safi vineyard.
Accurate management of yield levels and irrigation regime has allowed picking vibrant, flavorful berries despite the warmer-than-average vintage.
Winemaking was aimed at guarding and developing this fresh, juicy fruit. Ageing was brief, no more than 6 months, preferring stainless steel tanks to barrels. The result is an energetic wine that's a pleasure to sip. It's also a great food wine!
This Shiraz boasts a deep purple robe, and is redolent of ripe berries: raspberries, cassis and black cherries, with a hint of sweet vanilla. Its round tannins and fleshy fruit create a plush mouth-feel. The fruit is ripe but avoids heaviness. It's drinking well today and would probably evolve nicely over 2-3 years.
You can go in many directions with this wine: From simple pizza or pasta with meatballs to oven- roasted chicken over sweet vegetables or indeed a juicy grilled kebab.
